I recently sat down for a fascinating chat on the Street Smart Success podcast, where I got to share the story of how my career shaped the way I see the global economy—and how that led me to recommend a bold idea for America’s future: the creation of a U.S. sovereign wealth fund.
In the interview, we dove into the major events I’ve witnessed and studied over the decades, from the 1987 Wall Street Crash to the 2008 Financial Crisis, and more recently, the economic disruptions of the Covid pandemic. These experiences gave me a front-row seat to understanding how the global economy really works and inspired me to rethink what’s possible for U.S. economic policy.
That journey culminated in my latest book, The Money Revolution: How to Finance the Next American Century. In it, I propose that the U.S. government create a sovereign wealth fund to invest trillions in the industries and technologies of the future. This bold idea could secure the nation’s economic future by driving innovation and growth. It could also shore up U.S. national security in the face of the rapidly growing threat from China.
I’m thrilled that in September, both President Trump and the Biden administration announced their support for this initiative. It’s exciting to see such an important concept gaining bipartisan momentum.
